April Update!

I'm almost done with Donkey Kong!
Things I've finished:
- Sanded and repainted the coor door and coin acceptors:
- Built and painted the wood base:
- Primed and painted the cabinet (Painted pics to come):
Things I have left to do:
- Finish painting the inner trim of the cabinet.
- Make a new monitor bezel.
- Install new T-molding.
- Apply new sideart.
- Reassemble.

In other news, I picked up another cabinet: A Nintendo VS. UniSystem: VS. Super Mario Bros. I'm still debating whether I should use the monitor from this cabinet for my Mario Bros. and save all the other parts for a possible VS. project in the future. The benefit of the first option would be to finish Mario Bros. The benefit of the second option would be to have a working VS. cabinet that would allow me to switch out multiple VS. PCBs.
I'm leaning more towards the first option just because I don't have a lot of interest in playing VS. games since they are so similar to the NES counterparts. I know there are some noticeable differences, but I find that the games are similar enough that I'd enjoy playing them just as much on my NES.
The cabinet is in decent shape. It's made of particle board so I'll need to do a little repair work on the back edges where some wood chipped off. I'll need to patch some holes and repaint the coin door as well. The marquee is faded yellow, but it still looks good in my opinion. It came with keys and a backdoor. It's fairly clean inside with the exception of some cobwebs and dust.

As I promised before, here are some pictures of the wide body Mario Bros. I've only had time to disassemble the control panel. Eventually, I'll clean every part and put it all back together. I needed monitor wiring adapters, control panel wiring, a joystick, a marquee, and a new coin door. Thanks to some helpful KLOVers, I have all these parts now.

So I'll finish restoring DK this week and it will be ready to move into the house. I'm so excited and very happy with how it's turned out. In my next post, I'll share some pictures of the finished product.

How'd you go about repainting the coin acceptors? That's where I'm stuck in my DK restoration project -- they always end up looking bad every time I try.
And that was just my question, by the way. Didn't mean to be Anonymous. :p
I sanded them down very carefully with a hand-held routing tool. Then, I spray painted them with silver rustoleum enamel. I put a good 4-5 coats and let them dry for days at a time. You have to be really patient when painting. You have an option to spay a clear coat enamel on top of that, but I decided to leave them as is. I didn't when them coming out shiny. I don't see myself using the actual acceptors as I have it set up so I only have to push the coin rejector button on the first acceptor to "insert coin." If all else fails, you can always repaint it again.
